Kelapa I Never Knew About This?! Favful

I don’t know about you, but I sure have noticed that Insta-baes love taking their #doitforthegram pictures with coconut as a “prop”. On the beach? Take a shot of yourself sipping coconut water while lying in a hammock. Breakfast? Gotta have a smoothie intricately decorated with shredded coconut, poured into a coconut bowl. Scorching weather? It’s aight, they’ve got their Aviators and a couple of young coconuts to quench the summer thirst.

But little did we know that these tropical palms are actually gems hidden in plain sight?

Belonging in the Super Food team with the rest of the All-Stars such as avocados, blueberries and cinnamon, coconut oil (while others may recognize as copra oil), is an edible, multifunctional, multipurpose and multi-amazing oil (duh) extracted from kernels or meats of mature coconuts.

The myriad benefits of coconut oil has been scientifically proven and approved by the masses, some of which are able to aid in fat burning, raise positive HDL cholesterol, relief stress, stimulate digestion and plenty more. However, its ability to regulate and remedy our body is only the tip of the iceberg because I’m about to share with you girls (and guys) 5 how-tos that will up and ease your beauty/skin care routine

1. Chemical-free Makeup Remover & Natural Face Moisturizer

How-To → Apply small amount of coconut oil onto your palms. Then, massage into face in a circular motion. Just a heads up though, you will end up looking like you have just got a good cry over a breakup with the makeup smudging messy and unsightly, especially with those eye shadow and eye liner. But hey, this can only mean that the hack is useful! To clean, use tissue or cotton pad and gently wipe the makeup away. It’s that simple! The coconut oil absorbed will help moisturize your skin, giving you a smooth, light and most importantly a non-greasy after-application.

2. Silky Smooth & Non-Pricking Shaving Cream

How-To → Spread sufficient amount of coconut oil onto your legs (or any parts of your body you wish to shave, and ensure it is only of external use). Unlike the generic shaving creams that we use, there is no need to wait and let set with coconut oil. Simply run your razor gently in one direction, until all parts are thoroughly shaved. Similarly, we can skip the cleaning using clear water afterwards. Instead, wipe the remains away with a towel and let your skin soak up the goodness of the oil. Not only does it not sting, but the stubbles won’t feel as apparent too!

3. Kissable Lips with a Hint of Summer

How-To → For convenience, put 3 to 4 tablespoons of coconut oil into one of the toiletry kits. When your lips are dry or chapped, apply the oil evenly and directly onto your lips like how you would a normal lip balm. Dab off the excessive oil that may have run on the edge of your lips so it doesn’t appear as if you have submerged your mouth into a plate of greasy bacon! Coconut oil doesn’t just keep your lips naturally pink and plump, it does its trick in making your mmhmm that much better, with a light tang of coconut.

4. Say Bye to Tangle But Keep the Love

How-To → Using two bowls, fill the first one with hot water and place the second bowl in it. Then, put in 1 teaspoon of coconut oil into the second bowl and stir until it has turned completely liquid (melted). Afterwards, run the solution lightly through your hair with your fingers. Your hair will seem greasy and stiff in the beginning, so let the coconut oil soak and air-dry for a few minutes. Then, run your fingers through your hair again to loosen any sticking strands. What’s next? Be in awe with the tangle-free, smooth and shiny texture, of course.

5. Makeup Brush Cleaner

How-To → In a small bowl, mix 2 teaspoons of coconut oil with 3 teaspoons of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Then, swirl your makeup brushes in the mixture thoroughly. Check the brushes to see if there are remains of makeup, otherwise, swirl your brushes in another bowl containing clean warm water to clear off the coconut oil and lemon.  To dry, simply dab your brushes with paper towel or clean cloth. Then, place the brushes on a new cloth to air-dry. Both the coconut oil and lemon juice act as a disinfectant that kill bacteria from the layers of makeup collected/stained in the brushes over time.
